Request/Authorization Details

SEVIS allows you to view current request and authorization details for students. The student’s past requests and authorizations do not display. Only pending requests or approved requests with future end dates display on the Current Request/Authorization Details page. If the text indicates there are no requests for an authorization type (for example, “No Current Transfer Request”), it does not mean that the student has never had that type of authorization; it means that the student does not have any current authorizations.

To view the student’s request/authorization details:

  1. Go to the Student Information page.

2. Click Request/Authorization Details. The Current Request/Authorization Details page opens.

3. SEVIS allows you to view the following information for a student, if any:

If the student does not have any current or pending requests or authorizations, the message No <request/authorization type> displays.

If an F‑1 student has a Filed Cap‑Gap Extension, a comment will display in the Cap-Gap Extension section. Per 8 CFR 214.2(f)(5)(iv) and 8 CFR 274a.12(b)(6)(iv), this comment addresses changes to the student’s authorized length of stay in the United States and employment authorization, if applicable.

If an F‑1 student receives a Pending or Approved Change of Status request from an F‑1 to an H1‑B visa through CLAIMS, a comment will display in the Change of Status section. Per 8 CFR 214.2(f)(5)(iv) and 8 CFR 274a.12(b)(6)(iv), this comment addresses changes to the student’s authorized length of stay in the United States and employment authorization, if applicable.

F-1 students with an Active status, and with a Denied or Withdrawn Change of Status request from the F-1 to H1-B visa type, are automatically updated in SEVIS to a Completed status 60 days after whichever is the later of the following dates:

  • Latest post-completion OPT end date.
  • Program end date.
  • Change of Status Denied or Withdrawn receipt date.

The Completion status reason is automatically displayed on the Student Information page in the Remarks field; and the student's Event History is updated.

4. Click Return to open the Student Information page.
