Form I-17 Petition Update - Instructional Sites (Campuses)

Last updated 12-Jan-2018

Overview

School officials must update their institution’s Form I-17 when information on the petition changes or does not reflect the institution’s current operating status. Changes must be reported within 21 days of the change. This includes changes to information on Page 5 of the Form I-17: Campuses and Instructional Sites.

Schools must update the Campuses and Instructional Sites information on the Form I‑17 petition to:

  • Add a new instructional site where international students will attend.
  • Remove an instructional site.
  • Change information about an instructional site, for example, an address change.

In accordance with SEVP Policy Guidance for Adjudicators 1003-03: Reporting Instructional Sites, the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) considers all campuses as instructional sites. However, until further notice, the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) will reference both campuses and instructional sites.

For information on other Form I-17 Petition Updates, see the SEVIS Help Hub for the following articles:

Submit Form I-17 Campus or Instructional Site Petition Update

Only the principal designated school official (PDSO) is authorized to submit Form I‑17 changes to SEVP. After your additions, edits, or deletions of campuses or instructional sites have been entered, the PDSO submits the changes in SEVIS from the Update School Information (Form I‑17) Submit page:

5. Click View Edits to verify all information is accurate.

6. Ensure all supporting documentation is ready to upload. If the petition update requires a signed Form I-17, click Print Petition at the bottom of this page, and collect the required signatures.

Note:  If the petitioner does not print the form before leaving this page, schools will be unable to upload a signed Form-I-17. If the school needs to gather more supporting documentation, use the left navigation pane to return to the form and save the petition as a draft.

7. Complete the PDSO Attestation and enter your SEVIS password to sign the petition update.

8. Click Continue only when the school is ready to submit the petition along with ALL required supporting evidence. The Upload Evidence: Form I-17 page opens.

Note: Ensure that your school is ready to submit all evidence before you click Continue. If the school is not ready to provide evidence once they reach the Upload Evidence page, the only option will be to cancel the petition and begin the process again.

Once you submit the information in SEVIS, you must upload the required evidence to SEVP through SEVIS.

Note: After the PDSO submits the Form I-17 for update, the petition will be locked until the adjudicated changes have been either approved or denied.
