SEVP Portal Password Tips Sheet
As a U.S. government system, the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) Portal must conform to the federal government’s security procedures. Every user who accesses the SEVP Portal must follow these procedures. The initial login is your email address and Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) identification (ID) number.
- Keep your SEVP Portal user ID and password secure.
- Do not share your SEVP Portal user ID and password.
Password Requirements

- Passwords are case sensitive. If you create a password using a mix of upper and lowercase letters, you must always enter the password in the same way.
- Passwords must be updated every 90 days.
Password Tips to Create/Reset Your SEVP Portal Password
Here are some suggestions to create a strong password:

Choose a known word and randomly replace some of the letters with numbers or special characters. |

Take a word and spell it backwards also add at least one letter and one special character. |

Use a sequence of alpha, numeric, and special characters to update password after 90 days. | @1a@1a@1a@1a and change to @2b@2b@2b@2b. |
Include the date you create your password so you will easily know when to reset the 90-day password. |
