Approximately one-third of international students in the United States in June 2018 were pursuing bachelor’s degrees, according to the latest data in the Mapping SEVIS by the Numbers tool on Study in the States.
The tool was recently updated with June 2018 data from the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS). Among other trends, the data shows that:
- There were more than 1.1 million F and M students in the United States in June 2018.
- China sent the most students pursuing a bachelor’s degree to the United States, while India sent the largest population of master’s degree-seeking students.
- Approximately 13 percent of F and M students pursued a doctoral degree.
- Nearly half of F and M students across education levels pursued a degree in a science, technology, engineering and mathematics field.
Mapping SEVIS by the Numbers is an interactive tool that illustrates international student trends in the United States using data from SEVIS. The map is updated with information from SEVIS every quarter.
Users can explore the data by looking at countries of origin, male-to-female student ratios, education level and how the international student population differs in U.S. states.
