In the latest edition of SEVP Spotlight, Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) Director Rachel Canty discusses how designated school officials (DSOs) can interact with other Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) programs in their local communities.

One HSI program targeted toward the academic community is Project Shield America (PSA). PSA partners with academic research offices to prevent the export-controlled technology that they produce from falling into the wrong hands.

With an understanding of the academic community’s unique compliance and enforcement challenges, PSA provides outreach that helps institutions recognize indicators of export control violation. It also provides guidance on how institutions should respond to violations and where they should report suspicious activity.
