Update on ACICS Accreditation Recognition

April 9, 2018

On April 3, 2018, the U.S. Department of Education (ED) temporarily reinstated its recognition of the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS) as the department conducts a further review of the accrediting body and its continued eligibility for ED recognition.

U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos said the department would give ACICS until May 30, 2018, to submit additional evidence for consideration and indicated the department would respond with a decision on or before July 30, 2018.

The Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) will continue to monitor the evolving situation and review its impact on stakeholders on a case-by-case basis. If you have questions about how this development may impact your certification or nonimmigrant status, please contact the SEVP Response Center.
