DSOs: Don’t Forget to Merge Your SEVIS Accounts

August 8, 2019

The Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) encourages school and sponsor officials who have more than one username to request the merging of their Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) accounts by Aug. 31, 2019.

As a reminder, SEVP and the Department of State are working to create one record per person in SEVIS, beginning with school and sponsor officials. This first phase focuses on merging SEVIS accounts for active school and sponsor officials who use more than one SEVIS username to carry out their duties in the SEVIS production environment.

Merging your accounts will allow you to:

  • Choose your preferred username and password.
  • Access all of your schools and programs with one username and password.

To be eligible, make sure your first and last names in SEVIS are the same across all accounts and all of your SEVIS usernames are active. Then submit a request to SEVP to have your SEVIS accounts merged.  After the name change on the Form I-17 or Form DS-3036 is approved, request the merge even if it is after Aug. 31, 2019. SEVP will continue to process account merge requests as they come in to SEVP@ice.dhs.gov, even if those requests are received after Aug. 31, 2019.

It is not mandatory to merge your accounts, but SEVP strongly encourages taking action. If you currently use only one SEVIS username, no action is required.

For detailed instructions on how to request the merging of your SEVIS accounts, please refer to the SEVIS Job Aid: Merging User Accounts on Study in the States. You may also contact the SEVP Response Center at 703-603-3400 or 800 892 4829, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET, except federal holidays.
