New Process to Submit Form I-515A Documentation
Beginning June 26, 2024, F, M and J nonimmigrant student and exchange visitors who receive a Form I-515A, “Notice to Student or Exchange Visitor,” from a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer will be instructed to email their required documentation to the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) Form I-515A Processing Team at SEVIS.I-515@ice.dhs.gov instead of mailing the documents to SEVP.
The Form I-515A is distributed to F, M and J nonimmigrants at a U.S. port of entry who:
- Do not have all their required documents,
- Have not paid the I-901 SEVIS Fee, or
- Have a Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) status issue.
If you receive a Form I-515A, you have 30 calendar days from your date of entry into the United States to email the required documents to SEVP. This change expedites the Form I-515A processing times while eliminating the costs and risks associated with mailing original documents. The following documents are required:
- The Form I-515A,
- The Form I-20, “Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Student Status,” or DS-2019, “Certificate of Eligibility for Exchange Visitor Status (J-Nonimmigrant),” endorsed by the designated school official or program sponsor, and
- The Form I-94, “Arrival/Departure Record.”
If you have received the previous version of the Form I-515A that contained mailing instructions, you may email your documents to SEVP instead of mailing them. However, please do not resend documents that have already been mailed. SEVP will continue to accept Form I-515A documentation via mail until Sept. 30, 2024.

You can contact the SEVP Response Center (SRC) via phone at 703-603-3400 or 1-800-892-4829 or via email at SEVP@ice.dhs.gov. The SRC is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET, except for federal holidays.
