Reminder: Use USCIS’ Revised Form I-765 Starting Dec. 4

November 30, 2017

As a reminder, beginning Dec. 4, 2017, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will only accept the revised version of the Form I-765, “Application for Employment Authorization.” All applicants, including eligible F or M international students, must submit the new form.

USCIS updated the Form I-765 in October 2017 to include fields to apply for a Social Security number (SSN) or a replacement SSN card without visiting a Social Security Administration (SSA) office.  The revisions to the Form I-765 do not change the process for work authorizations, and completing the fields to apply for an SSN will not impact USCIS processing times.  Please note that applicants are not required to apply for a new or replacement SSN card using the Form I-765 and may continue to apply for one in person at their local SSA office.

You can verify that you are using the correct version by checking that the form is dated “07/17/17” at the bottom of the page on the form and instructions.

For more detailed information about the revisions made to the Form I-765, please read USCIS’ news release regarding the form.
