
SEVIS by the Numbers: Over 40 Percent of F and M Students Study STEM
Approximately 42 percent of all F and M international students in the United States study science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), according to the latest SEVIS by the Numbers report available on ICE.gov.
Engineering, computer and information sciences, and biological and biomedical sciences are the three most popular STEM majors among F and M students in the United States.
The number of F and M student studying STEM fields in the United States increased by 15 percent from July 2015 to July 2016. Nearly 90 percent of all international STEM students are from Asia.
Within the United States, California has the largest number of international students studying STEM fields with more than 70,000 F and M students. Within the international student population of each state, Wyoming has the largest percentage of students studying STEM. Approximately 65 percent of the entire F and M student population in Wyoming studies a STEM field.
