According to the latest SEVIS by the Numbers report, 36 percent of all F and M students study in the states of California, New York and Texas.

California is the most popular destination for international students and hosts more than 175,000 F and M students. New York is not far behind and welcomes approximately 120,000 F and M students to its Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP)-certified schools. Texas, with over 76,000 F and M student, ranks third.

SEVIS by the Numbers is a quarterly report that highlights nonimmigrant student and exchange visitor trends and information by using data stored in the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS). SEVP manages SEVIS to track and monitor the status and activities of F and M students, along with the schools that educate them.

Data in the report also indicates that there are almost 9,000 SEVP-certified schools in the entire United States. California not only hosts the largest population of F-1 and M-1 students, but also has the largest population of SEVP-certified schools in the country with 1,200 schools. New York comes in second, with 648 SEVP-certified schools.
