The First Lady Talks About Education While Visiting China
On March 19, 2014, First Lady Michelle Obama traveled to China and encourages U.S. citizens to follow her journey. Her trip will focus on the power and importance of education between our two countries. China is the fifth most popular place for students from the United States to study abroad, and more students come from China to study in the United States than from any other country. During her visit, the First Lady will visit a Chinese university and high school to talk with students about education.
According to the SEVIS by the Numbers report, there are currently 248,968 Chinese students enrolled in U.S. academic programs. In comparison, the total number of students from the rest of Asia was 364,604. Data also shows that the number of females and males coming to the United States from China is almost equal and popular majors among Chinese students include business, engineering, and computer and information sciences.
