Football 101 Program Introduces International Students to American Tradition
Along with high-quality academics, schools across the United States offer various programs to welcome and help F and M students acclimate to their life in the United States. One example is a program at Colorado State University (CSU) called “Football 101.” As previously mentioned on Study in the States, collegiate sports are a big part of many campus cultures. According to the CSU Department of Public Relations, officials created Football 101 to “introduce international students to American college football and its many traditions.”
Founded in 2009, Football 101 “combines resources in the Alumni Association, Athletics and International Programs to introduce football traditions such as tailgating and singing the CSU Fight Song to international students.” Since launch, over 1,000 students have participated in the program. In 2012, 25% of the international student population at CSU took part.
This year, CSU’s Football 101 program received a Gold Circle of Excellence Award from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education. For more information, visit CSU’s website.
