June 2022 SEVP Spotlight

Welcome to the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) Spotlight, a quarterly newsletter for the academic community that includes important program news, seasonal reminders, and updates relevant to the international student life cycle. As of July 2020, SEVP Spotlight consists of an update from the SEVP director.

DIRECTOR’S CORNER

Start Summer with These Resources

It’s hard to believe that many of you have wrapped up another successful school year – time really does fly! As we commence the start of summer, at SEVP we’d like to remind schools of an upcoming deadline to nominate Classification of Instructional Programs codes for potential inclusion or removal from the DHS STEM Designated Degree Program List. The deadline to submit nominations is Aug. 1, 2022. Read the Broadcast Message for submission instructions.

We also wanted to highlight a few new resources available to you since our last update. To begin planning for the upcoming school year, the 2021 SEVIS by the Numbers Report provides insights into key trends among the international student population, as well as data that relay the impact of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. It may be helpful to explore this report for information regarding F and M students studying in the United States and the incredible schools, colleges, and universities that host them.

Additionally, the Study in the States Resource Library offers free, downloadable tools and information to make it easier for the international student community to follow the U.S. government rules and regulations that govern the international student process. Several resources were recently updated to have a fresh look and feel, just in time for the fall semester. Check out the new life cycles on Study in the States:

I know the recent tragedy in Uvalde has weighed heavily on many of us, especially many of you. I want to share a webpage with actionable school safety tools and resources from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency to help keep your campus safe and secure. I know that you all work tirelessly to ensure the safety of your students and hope these resources can be of use.

As always, make sure you are following Study in the States on Twitter, Facebook, and SEVP on LinkedIn for additional tips and resources.

Finally, I wish you all a safe and happy summer!

Respectfully,

Rachel Canty
