DSOs: Read This Recap of the Oct. 5 SEVP Ask the Experts Webinar

October 23, 2017

During the SEVP Ask the Experts Webinar on Oct. 5, 2017, Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) representatives provided an in-depth look at the Form I-20, “Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Student Status.”

The webinar covered several topics, including Form I-20 issuance and usage, and maintaining international student records. During the webinar, SEVP reminded designated school officials (DSOs) that:

  • Third parties, such as recruiters, cannot issue Forms I-20.
  • DSOs must sign the original, hard copy of an international student’s Form I-20 and provide it to the student.
  • DSOs should retain copies of each international student’s passport, F-1 visa and Form I-94.

Additionally, SEVP representatives answered several pre-submitted and live stakeholder questions during the webinar.

A full recording and presentation slides from the webinar are available on Study in the States. For more information, visit the SEVP Ask the Experts Webinar: Behind the Scenes of the Form I-20 page.

Make sure to tune in to future webinars to hear directly from SEVP about program updates and other important information related to the international student process.
