SEVP Welcomes New Deputy Assistant Director

August 3, 2017

U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officially named Rachel Canty as the new Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) deputy assistant director (DAD). She assumes the official title after serving as SEVP’s acting DAD since June 2017.

This leadership transition has no impact on the way international students and schools will communicate with SEVP or comply with the federal rules and regulations that govern the international student life cycle. As always, schools must maintain compliance and international students must maintain their status.

Prior to her tenure as acting DAD, Director Canty served as division chief for SEVP External Operations. She has been with DHS since its inception and served in various roles within ICE and at DHS headquarters, including as acting assistant director of the ICE Office of Policy, before working at SEVP. She received her bachelor’s degree from Emory University and earned her Juris Doctorate at the University of Florida.

To learn more about SEVP’s new DAD, read her first Director’s Corner in the June 2017 edition of  SEVP Spotlight.
