Follow Friday: Three Government Agencies to Follow for Travel Tips
As the summer comes to an end, you may be getting ready to travel back to school or to the United States for the first time to begin your studies as an F or M student.
There are several federal agencies involved in the international student process, and following their accounts on social media is an easy way to stay informed on the latest news and government rules.
Follow these three agencies for important travel tips and reminders:
- @TravelGov: The U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Consular Affairs issues student visas that permit you to travel to and stay in the United States. Follow it on Twitter for the latest global travel alerts and information on obtaining your F or M visa.
- @AskTSA: The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Transportation Security Administration (TSA) protects the U.S. transportation system, including U.S. airports. Message TSA with specific questions about what you can and cannot bring with you to the United States. You can also follow @TSA for general travel reminders.
- @CustomsBorder: DHS’s Customs and Border Protection (CBP) monitors U.S. borders, including land, sea and air ports of entry. Upon your arrival to the United States, a CBP officer will determine whether you are permitted to enter the country. Follow CBP for information on what to expect at a U.S. port of entry.
