SEVIS Release 6.32 to Introduce New Password Standard
The Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) delayed the deployment of Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) Release 6.32 into the SEVIS Production environment until March 10, 2017. Please note, the SEVIS Production environment will be unavailable from 8 p.m. EST on March 10, 2017, until 2 a.m. EST on March 11, 2017.
The Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) will deploy its next release on Feb. 24, 2017. Among other enhancements, SEVIS Release 6.32 will increase the required length for users’ passwords to 12-16 characters. Currently, SEVIS users must have passwords that are 8-16 characters in length.
After the deployment, users who create a new password or change an existing one will be required to use 12-16 characters. Existing users will still be able to log in to SEVIS with their current 8-16 character password until that password expires. As a reminder, all SEVIS passwords expire after 90 days.
As a U.S. government system, SEVIS must comply with the federal government’s security procedures. Every user who accesses SEVIS must follow these procedures, which include creating a good, strong password and keeping both their password and SEVIS user identification secure.
