The SEVIS by the Numbers report this quarter highlights the 2.9 percent increase of F and M students in the United States. This increase means there are more than 1.2 million students enrolled at the 8,697 Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP)-certified schools across the country.

Like previous SEVIS by the Numbers reports, this edition compares year-to-year data, from November 2015 to November 2016, which helps provide a better snapshot of international student trends in the United States.

Other highlights shown in this quarter’s report are:

• 76 percent of all F and M students are enrolled in either a bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral program.
• 42 percent of F and M students study science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
• The number of active J-1 exchange visitors in the United States decreased 1.8 percent to 198,217.
