Submit Your Form I-983 Questions to SEVP by Oct. 5
Science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) optional practical training (OPT) students, schools and employers have until Oct. 5, 2016, to email their questions about the Form I-983, “Training Plan for STEM OPT Students,” to SEVPOutreach@ice.dhs.gov.
Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) representatives will address questions received by the deadline during the Ask the Experts Webinar: Form I-983 scheduled for Oct. 19, 2016. For more information about the webinar, please visit Study in the States’ Stakeholder Webinars page.
Under the 24-month STEM OPT extension regulations, STEM OPT students and their employers must work together to complete the Form I-983. The form serves as the student’s formal training plan, outlining the learning objectives of the training opportunity and how the employer will help the student achieve those objectives.
Students must submit a completed, signed Form I-983 to their designated school official before they can submit their STEM OPT application to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. For more information about this requirement, visit Study in the States’ overview of the Form I-983 on the STEM OPT Hub.
