Reminder: SEVP Will Send “Intent to Terminate” Notices for Form I-515A Noncompliance Starting April 1

March 31, 2016

Beginning April 1, 2016, the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) will send an “Intent to Terminate” notice to all F and M international students and J exchange visitors who have not complied with their Form I-515A, “Notice to Student or Exchange Visitor,” within the allotted 30 days.

This notice will be sent to any student who has received a Form I-515A and has not properly responded, even if the student received the form prior to April 1.

If a student receives an “intent to terminate” notice, they must comply and properly respond to the Form I-515A by the deadline stated in the notice. If a student does not comply within the specified time period indicated in the notice, SEVP will terminate the student’s SEVIS record.

Any student who is terminated must either file for reinstatement and pay all relevant reinstatement fees, or depart the United States immediately.

SEVP will send the “intent to terminate” notice through the U.S. postal service to F and M students and via email to J exchange visitors. The notice will be sent using the student’s or exchange visitor’s contact information in the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS), so it is important that students ensure their contact information in SEVIS is properly updated.

Remember, the best way to avoid receiving a Form I-515A is to ensure that you arrive at a U.S. port of entry with all necessary travel documents in hand. For more information about how to properly respond to Forms I-515A, visit these resources on Study in the States:
