Applying for SEVP-Certification? Download the Form I-17 Fact Sheet

January 7, 2016

Are you a principal designated school official (PDSO) who needs to file for Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) certification? If so, download and refer to A Guide to the Form I-17 Fact Sheet on ICE.gov to help you successfully complete the process.

The fact sheet provides a step-by-step explanation on how to submit the Form I-17, “Petition for Approval of School for Attendance by Nonimmigrant Student,” to SEVP in the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System. It details how to properly fill-in each required field and provides a glossary of need-to-know terms.

After initial certification, you will also be responsible for consistently updating the petition in order to remain compliant. Failure to do so could result in a loss of certification. Visit the SEVP School Certification Life Cycle or the Study in the States School Portal to learn more about SEVP certification responsibilities.

Share the Form I-17 Fact Sheet with other PDSOs on social media using the hashtag #StudyintheStates.
