SEVP Director Advises School Officials on How to Help Students Avoid SEVIS Termination
The Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP)’s Director Lou Farrell explains the program’s termination authority as well as proactive ways school officials can help F and M students avoid Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) termination in the latest edition of the SEVP Spotlight.
In his article, Director Farrell discusses the two most common reasons SEVP will terminate a student’s record in SEVIS:
- Nonpayment of the I-901 SEVIS Fee.
- Failure to respond to a Form I-515A, “Notice to Student or Exchange Visitor.”
If SEVP terminates a record for noncompliance, that individual will need to leave the United States and may have difficulty returning to the country in the future. Therefore, it is important that F and M students understand what they need to do to avoid this risk.
If you are a school official who manages F and M students, please communicate Director Farrell’s advice on how to avoid SEVIS termination to your students. To read this issue of the SEVP Spotlight, download a copy on Study in the States.
