Follow Friday: The National Weather Service Helps You Prepare for Winter Weather

December 4, 2015

This season, it is important you prepare for more than just the holidays. Harsh winter weather, like snow storms and extremely cold temperatures, is common throughout much of the United States this time of year.

One proactive way you can stay informed about potential weather hazards in your area is to follow the National Weather Service (NWS) on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. NWS is an official U.S. government service with the mission to, “Provide weather, water, and climate data, forecasts and warnings for the protection of life and property and enhancement of the national economy.”

Unfortunately, winter weather can cause power outages, dangerous road conditions and other hazards that may be life threatening if you have not planned ahead. It is important that you know ahead of time about weather conditions that may affect your campus community so you can prepare before the extreme weather strikes.

Following NWS on social media will not only keep you up-to-date on the latest weather conditions unfolding around the country, but NWS’s social media accounts also provide preparedness tips that help you stay safe in the event of an emergency.
