1.2 Million F and M Students Study in the United States

December 17, 2015

As of November 2015, there are approximately 1.2 million F and M students studying in the United States, according to the latest SEVIS by the Numbers report. This is a 13 percent increase since last quarter’s report.

SEVIS by the Numbers is prepared each quarter by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP), and highlights nonimmigrant student and exchange visitor trends based on information collected in the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS).

According to this quarter’s report, there are 8,803 SEVP-certified schools across the country. Seventy-five percent of these institutions enroll 50 F and M students or less.

Asia continues to send the most students to study in the United States, with 77 percent of F and M students hailing from the continent. For more specific demographic breakdowns of international students studying in the United States, please visit our Mapping SEVIS by the Numbers tool.

The November report includes a special section about international students from South Korea. South Korea ranks third overall for the number of F and M students that come to study in the United States. Visit the Study in the States blog tomorrow for a more in-depth look at South Korean students.
