School Officials: Use the Updated DSO Process Fact Sheet

October 14, 2015

If you are a principal designated school official (PDSO) who needs to update information about designated school officials (DSOs) on your school’s Form I-17, “Petition for Approval of School for Attendance by Nonimmigrant Student,” please use the DSO Process Fact Sheet on ICE.gov to streamline the process.

The Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) recently updated the DSO Process Fact Sheet to reflect the recent change in the DSO submission process. The new process requires PDSOs to submit the applicable evidence at the same time as submitting the DSO request; this process change will help to reduce the time for SEVP adjudications.

PDSOs are reminded to submit updates to the Form I-17 at the time the change occurs and not wait until recertification to do so. The DSO Process Fact Sheet outlines the information PDSOs need to know in order to properly complete the submission. The fact sheet defines key terms, explains the regulatory policies that govern updating DSO information, and outlines the procedures PDSOs must follow to submit an update successfully.
