DSOs – Do You Know How to Connect with SEVP?

July 6, 2015
As a designated school official, it is important that you know what the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) is, and how to connect and speak with the subject matter experts that make up the program.

SEVP administers the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) on behalf of the Department of Homeland Security, and is responsible for managing schools, nonimmigrant students in the F and M visa classifications, and their dependents.

Although we prominently feature SEVP on our website, Study in the States is actually part of a larger initiative that serves as a hub of information about the F and M student process. The resources included on our site are here to help both you and your students understand the process and its requirements. Visit our tools page to learn more about the resources we offer, like our Study Guide to the States and Ask a Question feature

The recently launched SEVIS Help Hub is an addition to this effort, and is meant to serve as a central location for the information you need to ensure you are properly adhering to your reporting requirements in SEVIS.

However, if you have issue specific questions that cannot be answered through these resources, SEVP is available to answer your questions directly. To connect with the subject matter experts who can best answer your student or school-specific questions, we encourage you to contact the SEVP Response Center (SRC)

If you cannot find the specific answers you need on Study in the States about the required information you must provide on the Form I-17, “Petition for Approval of School for Attendance by Nonimmigrant Student,”  or how to make the proper updates to the form, we encourage you to reach out to the SRC. SEVP experts who handle your calls and emails can also help answer case-specific questions you may have about certification application requirements, student benefits and how to successfully submit the necessary fees to SEVP

The SRC adjusted its operating hours to better serve our stakeholders. The SRC is now open for calls Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. ET (except holidays).
Please contact the SEVP Response Center Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET, except holidays. You can connect by:
