SEVIS by the Numbers: Latest Trends on International Students

Female STEM Students in the United States Up 68 Percent from 2010

The latest SEVIS by the Numbers is available on ICE.gov.

Using data from the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS), this quarterly report provides a snapshot of international student data, including the number of international students in the United States, top places of origin and student demographics.

Here are some fast facts from the latest SEVIS by the Numbers:

  • There are 1.13 million F and M students studying in the United States;
  • There are 8,979 SEVP-certified schools in the United States approved to enroll international students; and
  • Seventy-three percent of all F and M students are enrolled in bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral programs.

This quarterly edition has a special focus on international women studying science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) in the United States.

  • Since February 2010, the total number of active F and M female students studying in STEM fields has increased by 68 percent, from 76,638 students in 2010 to 128,807 students in 2015.
  • Since 2010, the number of female STEM students pursuing master’s degrees increased 114 percent.
