Do Not Forget: Daylight Saving Time Begins March 8

March 6, 2015

On Sunday, March 8, most people in the United States will “spring forward” and set their clocks an hour ahead once they strike 2 a.m. This means that time will jump from 1:59 a.m. straight to 3:00 a.m.

This “spring forward” marks the beginning of Daylight Saving Time (DST) and means that those who are in regions of the country that practice DST will lose an entire hour of Sunday’s early morning. Please note that if you are an international student studying in Hawaii, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands or in most areas of Arizona (except in Navajo Indian territories), your region does not observe DST and your time will remain the same.

The U.S. Department of Transportation is the federal department that oversees and regulates DST, believing that it saves energy by reducing the amount of electricity people need to use during DST. This is because the sun sets one hour later during DST, allowing people the opportunity to spend more time outside and use less electricity to light their homes.

Will you remember to “spring forward” this Sunday? Be sure to remind your friends about the time change on Facebook or Twitter using #SpringForward.
