Updating DSO Information in SEVIS? Refer to the SEVP DSO Update Process Fact Sheet

February 12, 2015
Are you a principal designated school official (PDSO) that needs to submit a new designated school official (DSO) for your school, or change existing DSO information in the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS)? If so, we recommend you use the DSO Update Process Fact Sheet on ICE.gov. The DSO Update Process Fact Sheet is a resource to help you determine when and how to submit evidence in various circumstances, among other tips.

Referring to the fact sheet and following the processes outlined may help to reduce the time it takes the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) to adjudicate the necessary updates. This is because SEVP requires that the PDSO submit the applicable evidence for the DSO update at the same time they submit the update itself.

Remember, DSO information must be kept up to date in SEVIS. Schools must initially put information about each PDSO and DSO candidate on its Form I-17, “Petition for Approval of School for Attendance by Nonimmigrant Student.” The form must be updated whenever information or employees change.

Have further questions about updating the Form I-17? Check out the Tutorial: A Guide to Completing the Form I-17 for a step by step guide on filling out the form.
