Celebrating National Computer Science Education Week

December 8, 2014
National Computer Science Education Week (CSEdWeek) begins today and continues through Friday, Dec. 12. CSEdWeek offers tutorials on programming languages, building apps and how to begin studying computer science. This year, Code.org—a non-profit organization dedicated to expending computer science education—is hosting the event for teachers and students around the world. The goal of this annual program is to encourage kindergarten to grade 12 students to study computer science.

CSEdWeek promotes computer science as a core curriculum in schools, in addition to other science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) courses of study. President Obama marked STEM programs as a priority because STEM programs create jobs and innovation around the world. In fact, the U.S. Department of Labor projects that STEM-related fields will create 1.2 million jobs by 2018

Visit the CSEdWeek's website to learn more about the program. If you participate in CSEdWeek’s flagship event this week, The Hour of Code, please share your experience with us on Twitter and Facebook!
