Spotlight on the U.S. Department of Education

November 21, 2014
The U.S. Department of Education (ED) is a sponsor of this week’s International Education Week (IEW). ED’s mission is to “promote student achievement and preparation for global competitiveness by fostering educational excellence and ensuring equal access.”

In a video statement for IEW, ED Secretary Arne Duncan highlighted the department’s “commitment to highlighting and celebrating the benefits and values of international education and international exchanges.” The department’s International Affairs Office advances international priorities by coordinating international engagement and advising ED’s secretary on international issues that may affect U.S. education or the department’s policies and programs.

ED offers resources to help both U.S. and international students with their education. The department offers the College Navigator tool to help students find and keep track of schools that are right for them. F and M students should make sure to use this in conjunction with the Student and Exchange Visitor Program’s (SEVP) school search page. F and M students can only attend a school that is certified by SEVP.
