According to recent international student data, there are 1,112,616 F & M students in the United States. Since October 2013, the number of F & M students has increased by 9 percent. Of those students, 75 percent are from Asia and 12 percent are from India. Read about these insights and more in the latest Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) by the Numbers report from the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP).

SEVIS by the Numbers is a quarterly report using data from SEVIS, which SEVP uses to track and monitor the status and activities of nonimmigrant students and exchange visitors who enter the United States. The report is a snapshot of relevant and useful information, including the number of international students in the United States, top places of origin and student demographics.

The October report includes a special section that focuses on India, which is the home country of the second largest group of F & M students in the United States. Some additional highlights from the latest SEVIS by the Numbers report includes:

• There are 200,782 J-1 exchange visitors in the United States.
• Seventy-three percent of all F & M students are enrolled in bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral programs.
• Sixty-nine percent of all F & M science, technology, engineering and mathematics students are males.
• Since October 2013, there was a:
  • Sixteen percent increase in the number of F & M students studying master’s degree programs of study;
  • Fourteen percent increase in the number of students studying secondary degree programs; and
  • A nine percent increase in the number of students studying bachelor’s degree programs.
