Updates to Study in the States

July 1, 2014

Posted by Louis M. Farrell, Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE’s) Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP).

Since launched by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in 2011, SEVP has been committed to using this website to enhance our nation’s economic, scientific and technological competitiveness while we maintain our national security standards. This week we launched a new design and several new features on Study in the States:

  • Interactive Glossary — You can now easily find definitions to the most common terms in the international student process. Just use your mouse to hover over any word displayed in green to get an instant definition or visit the glossary page.
  • Ask a Question — Use this feature to find the answer to commonly asked questions you may have about the international student process and learn how to get more information if needed.
  • Enhanced School Search Page — You can also find an SEVP‑certified school by name, location, state, education type or visa type. Use a new interactive map to locate SEVP-certified schools across the United States.
  • Mobile-ready — Now you can use Study in the States on your smart phone or tablet — perfect for finding information on the go.

The international student process is complex and involves several government agencies. Together with our partners, DHS has aimed to make Study in the States a clearinghouse of information to help international students and academic officials navigate this process. No matter your role or place in the process, our new tools will help you find up-to-the-minute news and information on pertinent topics, such as maintaining student visa status and SEVP certification.

We want to hear what you think about these new features. Tell us on Facebook or Twitter
