In high school, students in grades 9-12 face unique experiences as they prepare to move on to the next stages of their academic life. If you or your child want to find a challenging education program at this level, the United States has many. The Washington Post reports on the most challenging 2,000 public and private high schools across the country.

Here are the rules that F students must follow to maintain status:

• F students can only enroll in a Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP)-certified school; use the School Search page to find one.
• F students can only attend an SEVP-certified public high school for one academic year and must pay the full, unsubsidized cost of attendance before arriving to the United States.
• F students can attend any private high school that is SEVP-certified.
• To study in higher education programs after high school, F students must apply to transfer to another SEVP-certified school.
