Your Report Card for Maintaining Status

June 16, 2014

At this time of year, you may be preparing for your final exams. As you prepare, remember that you have certain academic requirements you must fulfill to maintain your student status and remain in the United States as an F or M student.

For example, you need to attend and pass all of your classes. If your school or a course is too difficult, speak with your designated school official (DSO) immediately. You must enroll in a full course load each semester and complete your program by the date listed on your Form I-20, "Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Student Status." If you believe that you will not be able to complete your program by this date, talk to your DSO.

For more information about your academic requirements and other responsibilities, visit our resource page on maintaining status.
