I’ve Been Accepted! Now What?
In the spring, prospective F and M students receive notification letters from colleges where they applied and discover if they were admitted to a program. When you accept your admittance to a Student and Exchange Visitor Program certified school, there are a few tasks to complete prior to your arrival. Here are the next steps to help you prepare for your study:
- Receive the Form I-20, "Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Student Status" from your designated school official (DSO). Once you accept a school, use the Form I–20 to pay your I–901 SEVIS fee and apply for a visa.
- Visit FMJfee.com to pay your I-901 SEVIS fee. For help, watch the I-901 SEVIS fee payment tutorial.
- Apply for a student visa with the Department of State. To schedule an appointment, find the U.S embassy or consulate closest to you.
- Familiarize yourself with the official documents you need, like your passport, visa, and Form I-20. In addition to the original documents, you should have at least two sets of copies: one copy to keep in a safe place and one copy to give to your school officials.
