Volunteer to Clean Up the World this Earth Day

April 22, 2014

Today, April 22, is Earth Day, when people in 192 countries around the world devote time to protect our environment. This year, both Earth Day and National Volunteer Week happen in April. One way to celebrate and make a difference in your local community is by volunteering on your own or in a group to pick up trash, pull weeds, or even clean up a park. As an F or M student, you can volunteer while you study in the United States as long as you maintain your status. Here is what to remember:

  • You cannot receive any form of taxable income.
  • You cannot volunteer for a position for which the organization would normally hire someone.

To find volunteer activities in your area, visit serve.gov. Are you volunteering on Earth Day? Share your story or pictures with us on Facebook or Twitter.
