Give Time and Maintain Status during National Volunteer Week

April 11, 2014

The White House has proclaimed April 6 – 12, 2014 as National Volunteer Week, an occasion for people across the United States to give their time to help their community, state and country. As an F or M student in the United States, you also have a chance to volunteer in your local community. Even when volunteering, you must always remember to maintain your status. The only rules you have to follow are:

  • You cannot receive any form of taxable income.
  • You cannot volunteer for a position for which the organization would normally hire.

You can find service opportunities through tools like campus organizations or in local community resources. Check out Serve.gov for other volunteer ideas. If you have questions about how to volunteer and maintain your status, talk to your designated school official.

Tell us how you are making a difference during this National Volunteer Week on Facebook and Twitter.
