Participation in U.S.-Brazil Study Abroad STEM Program Doubles

January 2, 2014

The Brazil Scientific Mobility Undergraduate Program provides scholarships to undergraduate Brazilian students and funds them for up to one year of study in the United States. The students who receive these scholarships are primarily those interested in science, technology, engineering, and math.We highlighted this program in 2012, and since then it has continued to grow. According to Inside Higher Ed,more than 4,000 students are participating this fall, more than double from those enrolled last year.

“It certainly is the most exciting activity between the Unites States and Brazil at the moment that promises to create longer-term linkages between universities in the U.S. and universities in Brazil,” said Edward Monks, the director of academic and experiential learning at the Institute for International Exchange.

Brazilian students are enrolling at schools like the University of California-Davis, Illinois Institute of Technology, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Arizona State University and the University of Kentucky.

For more information on how to apply, see the Institute of International Education's website. Please remember that if you are an F or M student, you must follow the work authorization process to maintain your status. If you have questions, talk to your designated school official.
