Happy Chinese New Year—China Sends Most Students to the States

January 31, 2014

Today is the Chinese New Year; an important holiday for citizens of China as well as for people from Chinese descent around the world. Did you know that last year China sent more students to study in the United States than any other country?

According to the recent SEVIS by the Numbers report, 248,968 Chinese students traveled to the country and enrolled in U.S. academic programs. In comparison, the rest of Asia sent 364,604 students. Data also shows that the number of females and males coming to the country from China are close to equal and popular majors among Chinese students include business, engineering, and computer and information sciences.

Are you a Chinese student studying in the United States? Why did you decide to come here? What are your educational goals for this new year? Tell us on Facebook and Twitter.
