December 9–15 is Computer Science Education Week
Students all across the United States are participating in the annual Computer Science Education Week, hosted this year by Code.org to inspire students to learn and develop a passion for the field. Are you currently studying or interested in computer science? Did you know that it is one of many programs in the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields? STEM is an important priority for the United States. You can find STEM programs at a variety of U.S. schools, including community colleges and four-year universities.
According to the 2013 Open Doors report, 77,560 international students studied in U.S. math and computer science programs last year, an 8.7 percent increase from the year before. In fact, 9.5 percent of all international students in the United States studied in these programs. Countries including India (23.1 percent), the United Kingdom (18.1 percent), Turkey (13.5 percent) and South Korea (12.4 percent) had the highest percentages of students enrolled in math and computer science programs.
