Learn about MAVNI this Veterans Day

November 8, 2013

Note: The Department of Defense is not currently accepting MAVNI applications for FY 17 while it is revising its MAVNI implementation plan. Once it begins to accept enlistments, SEVP will provide additional information at that time. For more information please visit the What is MAVNI? Resource page.

The United States celebrates Veterans Day every November 11 to honor the service of our military veterans. Military service is important for countries around the world including the United States. F and M students who are interested in joining the U.S. military may be able to do so through Military Accessions Vital to the National Interest (MAVNI).

MAVNI allows certain non-citizens who are legally present in the United States to join the U.S. military and apply immediately for U.S. citizenship using Form N-400, “Application for Naturalization.” The program is available only to legal aliens holding critical skills including physicians, nurses and experts in certain languages.

Designated school officials, as well as F and M students should be aware of the program. You can learn more by visiting our MAVNI resource page.
