National Cyber Security Awareness Month: Stop.Think.Connect.

October 8, 2013

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) wants to ensure that the public understands how to be safer in their daily activities online. To keep the public informed, DHS launched Stop.Think.Connect. campaign, “a national public awareness campaign aimed at increasing the understanding of cyber threats and empowering the American public to be safer and more secure online.” F and M students can also benefit from this cyber security information.

According to DHS, you should do the following to help stay safe online:

  • Stop: Before going online, understand the risks of using the Internet and how to identify potential problems.
  • Think: Make sure you understand where you are going on the Internet and how your actions could affect you in the future.
  • Connect: Be more confident in your activities on the Internet by knowing that you are informed and can protect yourself online.

As an F or M student, you may use the Internet for a variety of activities before you arrive in and during your studies in the United States. Use Stop.Think.Connect. to learn more about cyber security and what you can do to protect your information.
