Financial Aid Opportunities for F and M Students

February 15, 2013

F and M students and their families make a serious financial commitment when they chose to study in the United States. While the costs associated with enrolling in U.S. schools may be high, there are many positives to an American education. An F or M student is responsible for education costs including tuition, room and board and travel; however, many schools offer financial aid and scholarships.

EduPASS provides information on financial aid packages. Remember that you can apply for academic and athletic scholarships to cover the costs of education. Also, you should not have to pay to search or apply for scholarships, and the most reliable source for information about financial assistance is your school’s financial aid office. If you want to apply for financial aid, consult with your designated school official (DSO).

Some schools offer work study programs as a part of financial aid packages. While these programs can be helpful in paying for school, remember that you may work in the United States only with specific employment authorization from your DSO or the U.S. government. Also, remember that if you earn wages in the United States, you must report your income and may need to pay taxes. You will need a Social Security number to be employed.
