January 23, 2013

Please note: On May 10, 2016, DHS replaced the 17-month STEM OPT extension with a new 24-month STEM OPT extension. All existing 17-month STEM OPT EADs will remain valid until the EAD expires, is terminated or revoked. For more information about the new STEM OPT rule, please visit the STEM OPT Hub

E-Verify is a web-based system that helps employers to determine whether their newly hired employees are authorized to work in the United States. U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has just launched the new E-Verify Employers Search Tool that allows you to find employers currently enrolled in E-Verify.  The search tool includes exciting features such as the capability to filter, sort, and export employer results. It replaces the lists of E-Verify employers and federal contractors which previously appeared on the E-Verify website.

F-1 students in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) related programs who plan to apply for a 17-month Optional Practical Training STEM extension may only work for employers enrolled in E-Verify. These students may find this tool helpful in their search for eligible employers.
