SEVP Seeks Stakeholder Feedback on Draft Guidance

September 27, 2012

The Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) seeks public comment on draft policy guidance for two issues – instructional sites and governance. We value feedback from the public and seek your input in policy development. Your feedback helps us to better understand your areas of concern and provides a forum for us to consider all relevant information.

We seek your input on draft policy guidance for our adjudicators. Draft policy guidance for comment is posted on Study in the States where you will find instructions for submitting comments that will be read and considered by SEVP staff. It is important to note, these drafts of proposed guidance will be used by SEVP adjudicators and staff. These drafts are not intended as guidance for the general public, nor are they intended to create binding legal requirements for the public. Until issued in final form, the draft memos do not constitute agency policy in any way or for any purpose. These include all previous drafts of guidance documents posted to Study in the States.

You now have the option to automatically receive email notifications whenever new draft guidance is posted on Study in the States. If you wish to sign up, enter your email address in the box on the right side of this page.

Instructional Sites

We seek public comment on draft policy guidance for adjudicators on instructional sites. We try to provide guidance on a streamlined and clear definition of what constitutes an instructional site and what instructional sites schools should report to SEVP.

Governance

We seek public comment on draft policy guidance for adjudicators on school governance. We seek to provide guidance on what constitutes shared governance for purposes of schools sharing one Form I-17, “Petition for Approval of School for Attendance by Nonimmigrant Students.”

How to Comment on Draft Guidance

Visit SEVP Guidance: Opportunity for Stakeholder Feedback to download guidance for each issue. You must use the specified subject line to respond to each issue via email. Please do not provide feedback on more than one issue in the same email. SEVP will consider feedback on these issues from Sept. 28, 2012, to Oct. 12, 2012.
