March College Admissions Checklist for International Students
The New York Times education blog, The Choice, recently introduced a special series titled The Counselor’s Calendar. It provides advice from experts to keep students on track throughout the college admission process. In conjunction with this series, the Times published a checklist for international students.
The article highlights several key steps an international student should take when preparing for college, as outlined by an EducationUSA outreach coordinator at the Institute of International Education. Some highlights include the following:
- Research your options – EducationUSA can help you find the program of study that is right for you.
- Determine finances – After you receive acceptance to a program of study, you must provide proof of financial responsibility. Consider the total costs and your eligibility for financial aid before applying to schools.
- Contact your designated school official (DSO) – after you have received acceptance, the DSO at your school will provide you with proper documentation needed to study in the United States, as well as how to apply for a student visa.
For more information on how you can better prepare for your time in the United States, launch the Study Guide to the States to learn every step of the process.
