Institute of International Education Opens Emergency Fund for Syrian Students Studying in the United States

February 23, 2012

In light of the recent unrest in Syria, the Institute of International Education (IIE) issued an official press release to announce that they are in search of Syrian students who are attending U.S. colleges and universities and who are in need of urgent financial assistance because of the unrest in their country.

IIE is asking campus officials to submit nominations to its Emergency Student Fund. The fund aims to assist Syrian students who wish to continue their higher education in the United States and prevent any interruption of their studies. Officials at each accredited U.S. university may nominate up to four Syrian students who will receive grants of $2,000 each to assist in completing their spring semester.

International student advisors or other campus officials should submit applications to IIE by February 29, 2012. IIE will NOT accept applications directly from students. The Student and Exchange Visitor Program asks for the coordination of these nominations to go through the schools’ international student office.
