American Universities with the Most International Students
U.S. News and World Report released a list of the top 11 American universities “where international students make up the largest percentages of the degree-seeking undergraduate student body.” This ranking is based on school-reported enrollment data for fall 2010. At the top listed schools, international students “made up between 12 percent and 25 percent of the degree-seeking undergraduate student body in fall 2010.” Since three universities tied at 12 percent enrollment, U.S. News and World Reports listed 11 schools.
The top 11 schools are:
1. New School (NY)
2. Illinois Institute of Technology
3. New Jersey Institute of Technology
4. Lynn University (FL)
5. Carnegie Mellon University (PA)
6. University of Tulsa (OK)
7. University at Buffalo—SUNY
8. Florida Institute of Technology
9. Andrews University (MI)
10. Brandeis University (MA)
11. California Institute of Technology
The article notes that having a community of international peers can help students stave off homesickness and adapt to a new culture. Many schools have programs in place to help international students adapt, but “international students that are well represented in their school's student body may find it easier to get involved with those built-in support networks.”
